Ms. Maricel is a 39-year-old single lady and a full-time businesswoman. She sells peanut food delicacies, such as fried peanuts, sugar-coated peanuts, and plain peanuts. She has been selling a variety of peanut products for eight years already. She will use the loan to buy raw peanuts, which she will process and deliver to different restaurants, hotels, and resorts within the city and nearby towns. She sells her peanut products on a consignment basis. She generates income through this business to support her daily needs. Her plan is to expand this business by increasing the volume of peanut products, because there are already more customers buying her product.
Ms. Maricel has been a member of Paglaum Multipurpose Cooperative for almost five years and has taken advantage of many types of loans.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
