After only a year and seven months of working as a janitor, Karyn already has a team of four part-time, two full-time employees and plans to hire another three full-time employees. As much of a go-getter as Karyn is, she experienced difficulty securing new contracts because of insufficient insurance. While watching TV, she noticed a commercial for Accion Texas Inc., nonprofit lender with America’s largest microlending portfolio.
Inspired, Karyn ventured to her nearest Accion to inquire about a loan. Shortly after approval, she purchased insurance for her company, equipment and began marketing her business, Yasmin Janitorial Services, LLC in her hometown of Metairie, Louisiana. The 36-year-old is now able to ensure work for herself and her employees through new contracts.
