The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses among which are: food sales, brick making, detergent sales, beauty salon, cosmetics sales, meat sales, underwear sales and grocery sales.

The loan they’ll take out will benefit small micro businesswomen like Patricia. She indicates that she’s been part of Pro Mujer for seven years having joined thanks to an invitation from a friend who is a member of the institution. She currently has a business selling detergent. She comments that she started the business with her mother 20 years ago and when she got married decided to go into business on her own.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital. She will buy detergent from wholesale suppliers in the city of El Alto and then sell it in her sales space. This way of working makes it possible for her to generate resources to support her home as possible for she’s married with two children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers the savings she has in the institution.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
