Yolanda is a young lady of 23. She is single and lives in La Guadalupana Neighborhood, Chaquijyá Village, Sololá. She lives with her parents and her four siblings, working together to financially support their family.

She works in agriculture growing thyme on plots of land that her family has around their home. She learned to do this from her parents since she was a little girl, when she worked for half the day and studied during the other half.

Now, she has been working independently in agriculture for 10 years since she finished school. Because of the lack of existing job opportunities, she decided to start her own farm, which has now become her principal source of income.

She has seen that the earnings generated from working in farming are excellent. Therefore, she wants to expand her harvest by requesting a loan of 4,500.00 Q for the purchase of thyme seeds and organic fertilizer that she needs to farm and so have successful sales, improving her income alongside her family.

Her dream is to continue working and helping out her family, improving their living conditions and likewise supporting her other siblings who are still studying in the community’s school.

Yolanda es una joven de de 23 años de edad. Ella es soltera y vive en el Caserío La Guadalupana, Aldea Chaquijyá, Sololá, Sololá junto a sus padres y sus cuatro hermanos trabajando juntos apoyando a la economía de la familia.
Ella se dedica a la agricultura, cultivando tomillo en parcelas que tienen con la familia al rededor de su vivienda. Esto lo aprendió de sus padres desde niña cuando trabajaba la mitad del día y la otra mitad estudiaba. Tiene ahora 10 años de trabajar en el campo de la agricultura como independiente desde que termino el colegio, esto es por la falta de oportunidades de empleo que existe, ella decide emprender su propio cultivo convirtiéndose ahora en su principal fuente de ingresos.
Ella Ha visto que las ganancias que le generan al trabajar en la agricultura son buenas de este modo quiere ampliar su cultivo solicitando un préstamo de Q 4,500.00 para la compra de semillas de tomillo y abono orgánico que necesita para cultivar y así tener ventas exitosas, mejorando sus ingresos junto a su familia.
Ella tiene como sueño seguir trabajando y ayudando a su familia mejorando las condiciones de vida, así mismo apoyar a sus demás hermanos que aun estudian en la escuela de la comunidad.

ADICLA's youth entrepreneurship loans allow young people without prior credit histories to borrow in groups, an opportunity that is not offered by many other microfinance institutions in Guatemala. The loans will be used to help them start small businesses.


ADICLA (Association for the Holistic Development of the Basin of Lake Atitlán) is nonprofit rural community development association that provides small loans and services to improve quality of life in two of the poorest regions of Guatemala, home to large indigenous populations. Kiva funding will be used to support three innovative credit initiatives: youth business loans, green loans, and smaller loans to help ADICLA move down-market and serve poorer clients.
