Sorphorn is 33 years old and a married mother blessed with two children who are in school. To tackle the family financial burden, she does rice farming on a one-and-a-half-hectare area and cassava planting on a three-hectare area. This is the business that she has had for four years.
With this new loan, Sorphorn is in her fifth cycle with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The positive impact of her past loan has enabled her to upgrade her living conditions better than before. Now, she is seeking a new loan of 2,000,000 KHR in order to buy fertilizer for her crop.
She hopes to gain a good yield and triple her income, so she can buy rubber tree seedlings for growing to earn extra income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
