Originally from Sa Ang district of Kandal provice, Sem is 54 years old and a father of four children; some of them are now still in school. His main source of income for his family is from his bean planting business. The main challenge for his business is the low yield due to pests. To overcome this challenge, he is applying for a new loan. His prior loan from Vision Fund (Kiva's partner) has enabled him to improve his lifestyle and make it better than before. Now he is seeking a loan of 2,800,000 KHR in order to fix his water pump and buy bean seeds, fertilizer, and insecticide for his farmland. He hopes that he can gain a good yield from his crop so he can make more income to keep his children in school until college.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
