The association “Siempre Adelante” [Always moving forward] has worked for many years with the micro-lender Pro-mujer, a Kiva field partner. Association members are from the “Los Andes” zone in the city of El Alto, Bolivia. Most of the members are married with an average of 6 children each, and their children are of varying ages. Group members perform a variety of activities. Arminda, for example, is dedicated to the sale of beef, and Marcelina has a grocery store in her neighborhood. We could mention Leticia’s work, which involves selling gold jewelry. She travels to various parts of the city of La Paz, including Batallas and Achacachi, in order to sell her jewels, taking advantage of holidays when the women dress in their finest attire. Leticia sells her wares for cash or on credit, as do many of her fellow association members. For this reason they need capital in order to invest in their businesses and prosper as both businesswomen and housewives.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
