Ever Green Group
In this Group: Thailikliu, Adaina, Gailunei, Gaipuilu, Naomi
This is Ever Green group. They hail from a remote tribal village that is 25 kms away from the city of Imphal in the northeastern region of India. These five hard working women formed themselves a group in order to raise the bar economically, socially and financially. Since they are from an undeveloped area, they lack the facilities and privileges enjoyed by the so called elite groups.

Gailunei is the featured borrower with her hand raised. She is a mother to two children. Her husband is a private school teacher in the village. Being in a private school, he does not get a salary regularly and therefore could not meet the family's needs. Hence, in order to eradicate the worries of the family, Gailunei opened a variety shop in the village.

She keeps tobaccos, chips, soap, salt, candle sticks, matches and some daily essential products in her shop. Through the loan she avails from Kiva, she plans to expand the shop as well as store enough stock so that the shop will never run out of stock even during general strikes and economic blockades.

She also wishes to raise her two children by sending them to good school and providing them quality education. Her children are her source of inspiration. She appreciates WDSD/Kiva for being gracious to her and the group.

The rest of the women are engaged in weaving, ginger plantation and vegetable cultivation to generate more income.

About WSDS-Initiate
WSDS-Initiate is an inclusive nonprofit that works with women across all tribes and minority communities in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Most organizations concentrate their work in the plains region of Manipur, but WSDS is among the very few organizations serving women in the isolated hills. Political unrest and frequent economic blockades in the area make it very difficult to provide services, resulting in Manipur having the lowest penetration of financial services in the country.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
