Sophal is a 41-year-old mother of four children, two of whom are still in school. She comes from a rural village of Pursat province’s Bakan district. She and her husband have been farming rice on almost two hectares of farmland. The current business earns her about 20,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.
Sophal has been with VisionFund for one loan cycle. The previous loan helped her to support her family better. She is now applying for a loan of 1,000,000 KHR, which she will use to buy fertilizer and seed for her farmland. She hopes to grow more rice, so as to make a better living and keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
