Nidia de Fátima is 51 years old and a single mother with one child. She is originally from El Sauce, a place that is located in the northern part of the country. Nidia is known for being a responsible and hardworking person who wants to excel on a personal level. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and preparing for them traditional dishes from the region known as “Indio Viejo”. Unfortunately, due to the lack of financial resources, she was not able to study for a degree. Therefore, she was obligated to work at an early age so that she could help with the household expenses.
Thanks to her efforts and her drive to succeed, Nidia earns her living by making and selling piñatas from her home. She works at her business approximately 10 hours a day by offering her products. In the not-so-distant future, she would like to generate more income. Nidia is grateful for the assistance that the Kiva lenders offer to people who have limited resources and are from poor countries, such as Nicaragua, so that they have a way of making a decent living.

Nidia se caracteriza por ser una persona responsable, trabajadora, con ganas de superación personal. En sus ratos libre le gusta disfrutar de la compañía de su familia. Les prepara platos típicos de la región como “indio viejo” lamentablemente por falta de recursos económico no pudo cursar una carrera y se vio obligada a trabajar desde temprana edad para ayudar con los gastos del hogar.
Gracias a su esfuerzo y sus ganas de salir adelante tiene por actividad económica la elaboracion y venta de pinatas ubicada en sus casas de habitación Ella dedica a su negocio unas 10 horas diarias ofreciendo sus productos para que en un futuro no muy lejano pueda obtener mejores ingresos. Nidia agradece la ayuda que los inversionistas kiva les brindan a personas de escasos recursos y países pobre como es Nicaragua para tener un medio de trabajo digno.

Fundación Leon 2000 began operations in 1993 as the first microfinance institution to serve the western part of Nicaragua, a country which continues to be one of the poorest in the western hemisphere. Fundación Leon 2000 works to further the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises through credit services and management, applying the best credit industry practices and technical expertise. Additionally, Fundación Leon manages several business and financial education programs in the community, specifically for young entrepreneurs and at-risk youth. Fundación Leon 2000’s group of experienced and dedicated employees works in 7 offices in Leon, Chinandega, Chichigalpa, Somotillo, Jinotepe, El Sauce, and Nagarote and serves several thousand clients (the majority of whom are women).
