Sokkong is a young mother of two little kids residing in the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province. To earn a living, she does rice farming on a one-hectare area and raises two pigs, whereas working for others for a fee provides supplementary income from her husband. Sokkong is a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She will spend the loan amount she is requesting to buy eight pigs for raising and to build a decent pigpen. She will spend a portion of it on purchasing fertilizer for her rice paddy. She hopes to gain a good income to support her children.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
