David's story

David is a 54-year-old married man. He lives in Vani district with his wife and daughter. His wife is a housekeeper.

David in actively involved in agricultural activities. In particular, he has a milking cow and a calf. They produce dairy products for selling. Besides, they have a 0.5 hectare plot of agricultural land and a greenhouse where cucumbers, tomatoes and greens are grown. They sell the harvested products at local markets at a good price.

As the income is only seasonal and not enough for the family, David decided to start his business and seek credit among local financial institutions, but his attempts were unsuccessful because of his poor living conditions. The startup program that is joint initiative between Kiva and Credo, enables the rural poor and inexperienced people to get a loan for starting or re-starting businesses. His application was approved under the framework of this program to get a loan of $3,000. With the received credit, David will purchase a minibus and transport people. This will increase the income of his family and he will be able to improve the living conditions of his family.
