Zakiyeh is a 53-year-old Lebanese widowed woman. She is living with her three children, and all of them are still attending school. After her husband’s death, Zakiyeh became more responsible toward her family and had to work really hard to support her children well. She is a tailor, working in this type of business since 1990.
Over the years, she was able to build a good experience and became well-known in her region. Today, Zakiyeh is in need of a loan from Kiva partner Vitas s.a.l to purchase tailoring machinery and supplies such as textiles, needles, etc. She hopes to improve her work with the aim of earning higher income to be able to enhance her children’s way of living and especially to pay their educational fees.
Zakiyeh works from her home and she hopes to be able to own a tailoring factory one day.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
