Djekafo Group
In this Group: Diatou, Moussokoura, Deble, Sanata, Madie
The Djekafo group consists of five married women with an average age of 35 years and three children. They live in traditional extended families with their husbands, co-wives, brothers and sons in the village of Méridièla. They are long-standing neighbours, friends and business partners. They are on their 7th loan with Soro Yiriwaso, a microfinance institution which they joined to support their businesses' financial capacity. The six previous loans have been repaid.

This group of women trades condiments. Diatou is the woman standing at the far right of the photo. With this loan, she intends to buy with five boxes of Maggi cubes (a brand of bouillon cubes) from wholesalers in Bamako. She makes her sales at the market and at home, accepting both cash and credit, primarily to women. She hopes to make an average monthly profit of 21,000 FCFA, which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay the loan.

Le groupe DJEKAFO est constitué de 5 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de35 ans et 3 enfants. Elles vivent dans des familles traditionnelles élargies avec leurs maris, coépouses, frères et fils dans le village de MERIDIELA.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles ont adhéré à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leurs 7éme prêts. Les 6 précédents prêts ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de condiments à l’image de DIATOU qui est la 1ére femme debout dans la photos de la droite vers la gauche Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 5 cartons de cube Maggi avec les grossistes de Bamako. Elle effectue ses ventes au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée essentiellement de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 21.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
