Lelys Del Carmen
Lelys is 39 years old. She is the mother of a 4 year old son and lives in a common-law relationship with her partner. For eight years, she has been engaged in sewing, an activity she began because of difficulty finding employment and the financial difficulties her family was going through. Her workshop is located in her house and there she offers sewing services to third parties. In this way, she has managed to acquire the resources she needs to meet basic household needs. Lelys is a woman devoted to her family and to her work. She is strong and tries her best to always offer her son the best. She is requesting the support of this loan because she wants to purchase wholesale supplies (fabric, thread, buttons, elastic) for the purpose of continuing her business and increasing production to satisfy the demand that she has. Even though she has had difficulties with timely deliveries, as some providers are slow with delivery of raw material, she has been able to deliver to her customers. Lelys dreams of expanding her workshop and generating employment opportunities for single mothers, which may improve the quality of life of her family as well as the lives of other families that influence the development of her work

Lelys sueña con ampliar su taller y generar más oportunidades de empleo para madres cabeza de hogar, con lo que podrá mejorar la calidad de vida tanto de su familia, como la de otras personas que influyen en el desarrollo de su labor.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
