María Eugenia
Maria is married and has two children. She dedicates herself to providing services as an event organizer, activity that she started four years ago, when her neighbors and friends requested her to borrow plastic chairs that she owned for family events and after several requests, she discovered it was business idea, for which she bought several tables and more chairs, place settings, and tablecloths thanks to the financial support from her husband; she also took several training courses about event organizing and gastronomy with which she has been able to expand her service portfolio and generate more income, she works with the support of her two sisters whom she hired. Maria is an entrepreneurial woman, with vision towards achieving her objectives, which led her to request a loan for her plans to buy fixed assets and work items (motor, tablecloths, place settings, chair and arch for “Sweet Fifteen” birthdays, pots, spoons, knives, and other items) with which she will have more capacity and be able to take on contracts for larger events, which will generate better income to continue providing to her home's economy and look after the well-being of her children. This way Maria wishes to move towards achieving her main dream; to acquire a large location where she can provide the full service including the hall, where her customers can feel comfortable and happy with the service provided, she will also be able to hire more workers for the events, which will allow her to improve the quality of life of not only her family, but the family of many other people.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
