He got the idea to start his own business when he was not able to find work opportunities and his family was in a difficult financial situation. He started a restaurant where he works from Monday to Sunday together with his wife. This allows them to earn the necessary resources to meet their family's needs and basic expenses. Jaime is a man with a vision for the future to achieve his goals. He is always thinking of the well-being of his children and his wife, who motivate him to move forward every day.

He is requesting this loan to invest in the purchase of ingredients at wholesale (grains, vegetables, sodas, oil, meat, and other items) and fixed assets (canopies to adapt his business). This will help him expand his customer base and therefore improve his family's financial situation. This gives him the opportunity to advance towards the fulfillment of his greatest dream, which is to strengthen his business and open more locations so that he can provide employment opportunities to other people, and improve not only his family's quality of life but also that of the employees that work for him.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
