Gladys, 39, is from Shiere, in Kakamega County, which is found in the western part of Kenya. She supports five people in her family and is married to Joseph, who is a businessman and provides supports for the family. Together, they have five children, aged 19, 12, 9, 6 and 3 years old, respectively.
Gladys has been operating a retail shop for the last 12 years and getting a monthly income of 20,000 Kenyan shillings. She is applying for her first loan with the Kenya Agency for the Development of Enterprise and Technology. She will use the loan to purchase items like sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour, maize flour, and bars of soap to sell. She will use the anticipated income to open another retail shop.
Gladys' dream is to open a health centre and support her family.
