Graciela, a sus 30 años es soltera y no tiene hijos. Debido a la falta de oportunidades laborales, ella decidió iniciar su propio negocio con el fin de generar los ingresos necesarios para solventar sus necesidades y gastos básicos. La actividad que realiza consiste en la venta de mercancía de marcas muy reconocidas de ropa, relojes, zapatos, perfumes, entre otros; estos productos se los ofrece a familiares, amigos y vecinos, además utiliza las herramientas tecnológicas con lo cual amplía su mercado, pues también los ofrece por redes sociales y páginas comerciales. La mercancía que comercializa muchas veces es traída del extranjero, pues ésta le puede generar un poco más de ganancias, sin embargo, también la compra en la ciudad donde reside. La cliente es una mujer activa, emprendedora, con proyección hacia el cumplimiento de sus objetivos; esto la motiva para solicitar su primer ciclo de crédito, con el fin de invertirlo en la compra de mercancía al por mayor (relojes, zapatos, camisetas, perfumería), pues aprovechará la oportunidad de comprarla en el extranjero, ya que una amiga tiene un viaje programado en los próximos días y se la enviará por encomienda. This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
