Joseph is a fifty year old man with a family of five; two of his children are still at home. He is basically an agricultural man, with four acres of coffee plus a piggery project. He is asking for a loan so that he can buy organic fertilizers to apply in his garden. Alongside agriculture, Joseph is a business man with stationary shops in town, which also earns him some income at the end of each month.
Joseph's business acquaintances describe him as a hard-working man. And he considers himself a successful man at his age because through his work, he has been able to educate all his children and is proud to say that they are all graduates and are all successful in life with good jobs.
His main challenge, though, is harsh weather conditions, such as droughts, which leave his coffee garden dry at the end of the season. However Joseph has tried to mitigate such problems by diversifying his income-generating activities such as starting up the retail shop.
Joseph believes his future is bright thanks in part to this loan opportunity he has through Ugafode, one of Kiva's field partners.
