Lun is a rural villager from Kandal province's Ponhea Leur district where crop farming is a popular business in the neighborhood. She is 54 years old and a widowed mother of one daughter. Lun is a rice farmer who grows rice on three hectares of farmland. Having been in this business for 34 years, she is able to earn about 35,000 Cambodia riels per day to meet the family’s needs.

This is Lun’s second-cycle loan with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. The previous business loan, which she successfully repaid, helped her to sustain her living conditions as well as gradually helping her business. In this loan cycle, she is applying for an education loan to cover the entire tuition fees for two years for her daughter, a 21-year-old freshman specializing in Management at a local university. Lun very much hopes that this loan will enable her to send her daughter to university. This will help her daughter to obtain a higher education background so that she can get a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
