A rural farmer from Takeo province, Heang is the breadwinner in her family consisting of nine children. For her, animal husbandry (raising chickens and ducks) and rice farming are the primary sources of her family's income. This business has returned her up to USD 8 per day to support her living. Heang is new to VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Now, she has to care for only one son who is studying at a local university specializing in English literature. To cover her son's tuition fee, she decided to take her first loan from VisionFund (Kiva's partner). She hopes that her son can focus on his study and get a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
