Margaret is 24 years old and married with two children. She wants to start a small business making and selling ice cake (ice cake is the same as ice pop) in her community. She is applying for a loan to buy a deep freeze, cordial syrup, foam cups, sugar, a cooler and plastic bags. Margaret joined SPBD in 2013 to gain access to financial services. Margaret will use her profits to support her family financially.
South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) improves conditions for families living in poverty by providing accessible credit, training, and guidance to help them start, grow and maintain micro-businesses, build assets, finance home improvements, and afford to educate their children. 99% of SPBD’s loans go to women, who can borrow in groups to guarantee one another rather than put up collateral.
