Alma is married and a 44-year-old mother of five. She lives in Audora, Zamboanga Del Sur, with her family. Her husband is a government employee. She operates a hog-raising business. She has been doing this for many years, to earn income in addition to her husband’s salary. She took out a loan from Gata Daku MPC to buy livestock feed. She hopes to improve and expand her business to generate more revenue for the family’s basic needs.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
