Sidheswari MM was formed with seven members in 2009 in a small village in Odisha. They all came together to help each other and solve the social issues among them, save money and provide financial support to their families. They chose Gitanjali as the leader of their group. The lady sitting second from the right side of the photograph is Gitanjali. She is a 31-year-old woman living with her husband and her two children. For the last seven years, Gitanjali’s husband has been working as a farmer to manage his small family. It is not sufficient to manage the family. So Gitanjali is helping her husband by working with him and being involved in farming and selling vegetables and paddy in the market. She has four years experience in this business. She has requested a loan to buy vegetable seeds and plants, fertilizers, pesticides, and other advanced tools for farming, so that she can support her family’s income. Gitanjali says that by selling vegetables, she can support her family and she can send her children to a good school. Through that, she can provide a better education to her children.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
