The communal group Lena's is formed by five entrepreneurial members with a lot of creativity in business. Lena is a 48-year-old married woman and has two children. She has had a small business selling insecticides (mosquito coil and insect sprays) and match products for eight years.

In the future, she would like to have her own place where she will sell her products, generating income for her home on a day-to-day basis and thus obtaining greater financial earnings. With the loan amount granted, she will invest in buying more insect coil, spray and matches.

Lena and all of the members are grateful to Kiva for agreeing the loan granted and for the trust they have been given. Lena is standing in the middle of the group;

The rest are into secondhand clothing, fish and diapers and they need a total amount of GHS 3750 to expand businesses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
