Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group is made up of married women who are, on average, 42 years old and who also have an average of four children each. They all live in extended traditional families in the village of Fala Sidibela, in the commune of Massigui, Cercle of Dioîla, in the Koulikoro region (second administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

They know one another through kinship, neighborhood and friendship ties. They grow grains and condiments. The women who compose the Benkadi group are on their sixth solidarity loan and will use this new loan to buy grains and condiments.

The woman standing in the middle of the group is named Maramou Seydou. She is planning to use her loan to buy five bags of unhulled rice, each bag weighing 45 kg. This rice will be hulled and then sold at the Massigui market.

Maramou Seydou is expecting to make an average monthly profit of 36,000 CFA francs, which will be used to increase her activity.

In this group: Magnine , Djelika Madou , Rokia , Mamou , Maramou Seydou
