Sor Celina
Celina is 69 years old, married and the mother of two. After getting married at the age of 21, she decided to start her own business, in order to generate income and contribute to the household expenses. So she learned the art of dressmaking and with that knowledge opened her own shop in her home. Initially she sewed for third parties, but three years later started with her own line of articles for the home like sheets, bed clothing, quilts, towels, pillow-cases, etc. Doing this she was able to pay the household expenses and get her children ahead. Working independently she could be flexible and choose her own hours.

Celina is an enterprising and active woman, dedicated to her family and to her work. For these reasons she is requesting this loan in order to buy supplies at wholesale prices (fabric, thread, needles and synthetic cotton) and pay off an existing loan. By doing this she can continue with her business, having the raw materials at hand to make her products. And offer a variety of colors and fabrics to her clients, increasing her sales and revenue.

Celina dreams of expanding her business and offering employment to mothers who are also the head of their family. Thus raising the living standard of not only her family, but of many other people too.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
