Mary began her start-up business, Price Exchange Clothes and Gift Shop, in New Orleans in early 2013 with more than five years of retail experience and the readiness to take on the role of business owner.
Within her store, Mary sells gently used clothing, jewelry, and new and gently used shoes for men and women, along with many other items. The consignment shop offers many of the latest trends at competitive prices.
Before she began her business, Mary’s friend referred her to Accion Texas Inc., the nation’s largest nonprofit microlender. She applied for a microloan to begin her business and buy inventory for the newly opened store. She also used the loan to hire one part-time employee to assist with the day-to-day operations.
As Mary looks forward to working in her store and expanding in the future, she says that, without the loan, “I would not have been able to buy additional inventory.”
