Martha Lidia
Martha, 33, is a homemaker and farmer, and the mother of five children, four of whom are in different grades of elementary school. After school they help their parents with the farm work that does not require physical effort. Martha and her husband have been in this business for over ten years and it was through her own interest that she decided to learn how to farm the land. She and her husband own the land they bought from one of their customers. It is about a 30-minute walk from their house.

Martha currently is in need of financial support to buy farm supplies to protect her coffee crop. At harvest time she plans to sell the beans and obtain enough income to re-invest in her crop.

Her future plans include buying more land to continue growing coffee and offering a better variety such as "caturra", "lempira", etc., which are competitive products on the market and more attractive to customers.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
