Afshan's Group
In this Group: Afshan, Shabana
Afshan is a 35-year-old married woman who is a mother of four children. She lives in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. For the past five years, Afshan has been sewing clothes at home to support her family. Her husband drives a bus and is away for months and she has to wait for cash to meet her household expenses. Her brother lives with her to look after her family; he works sewing clothing at a garment factory and has been bringing home cloth so she can sew clothing to earn some money. Unfortunately, Afshan had sold her sewing machine to meet her household expenses.

Afshan is requesting a 25,000 PKR loan to purchase a machine to sew clothes. She hopes to get a boost in her earnings and be able to provide a quality education for her children. Afshan is very thankful to Kiva and its field partner BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
