Seeing that there is a current opportunity to join in the growing trucking industry, Maria decided to take part in trucking and begin a business.
With a couple of years of trucking experience, Maria hauls whatever is needed to haul according to her contractor. Currently, during harvest season, she and her husband haul sorghum, a grain used to feed livestock in areas too hot to grow corn, out of Corpus Christi, Texas. In the winter she will haul gravel and dirt to construction companies, and in summer, she’ll haul produce.
The wide variety of Maria’s hauling services led her to purchase a tractor and trailer, but Maria was in need of capital to get to and from cities and maintain her recently-started business. Maria turned to her friend who recommended her to Accion Texas, Inc.
Taking her friend’s advice, Maria applied and was approved for a $5,450 loan for her business to cover gas and maintenance expenses. Maria says, without the loan, she would not have been able to start her business as soon as she did.
