The “Colque Patha” communal bank will start the 28th cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center. It has 8 members led by a governing board presided over by Estefa. The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses among which are: grocery store, clothes sales, food sales, cookie sales, skirt making and call center.

The loan they’ll take out will benefit small micro businesswomen like Estefa. She indicates that she’s been part of Pro Mujer for ten years having joined thanks to an invitation from a girlfriend who is a member of the institution. She currently has a call center and says she learned this business years ago when she joined Pro Mujer; noting that it was a good business she started it in her zone.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital. She will buy phone cards at wholesale from suppliers in the city of El Alto and then resell them in her sales space. This way of working allows her to earn income to support her home however possible since she’s married and has two children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the training and the credit.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
