Andrés Marcelo has been a carpenter and artisan for the last 15 years.
He’s the father of two children and worked with his brother in a bamboo cane shop (owned by both of them) since 2005 but they were robbed and left with no capital so were forced to close.
On October 1, 2011 he decided to start his own business that consists of building and selling built-in kitchen cabinets, closets, interior and exterior modular home units and he also makes ecological crafts using recycled materials. Since starting this business he works with a friend every day and in his free time since he also works in a micro-business producing cheese his father owns.
He hopes his loan will be approved so he can use it to make physical improvements to his locale and to buy raw materials to improve his business’ site and to have more raw materials to work with.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
