Nelly is a 54 year-old woman who is single and has 3 children. She currently has a business making crocheted items. She learned to crochet from her mother, who was a dressmaker. In addition to this activity, she also sells merchandise and accessories, which has enabled her to obtain income to provide for her children and support the household. Nelly has experienced economic hardship in her life, as she has not had financial support from the father of her children. She has had to bear the entire burden of supporting them herself. However, with a lot of effort, commitment and dedication, she has worked arduously to get ahead on her own.
Nelly is seeking support in the form of a loan that will allow her to invest in the purchase of supplies and merchandise (chains, earrings, rings, fabric, thread and needles) so that she can continue to do her crochet work and have a variety of accessories to offer to her customers, thereby increasing her income. Nelly dreams of growing her business, having more customers, and increasing her sales, so that she can provide for her family's welfare and give them a better quality of life.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
