The FIFFAWA 1 group comprises nineteen members who live in the same neighborhood. It is the second time that this group is requesting financial support from ALIDé in order to raise its level of activity.

Celestine Dina, the group's representative, is the woman raising her hand in the photo. She is 43 years old and married to a man named Parfait with whom she has three children. Some of their children are in school and all are their dependents. Celestine Dina lives with her husband and children and jointly takes care of the various household expenses with her husband.

Celestine Dina did not go to school. In order to contribute to the household's various expenses, she has been selling fabrics, cosmetics, hair extensions and, additionally, some jewelry, from her home, for the past six years. This activity procures her a non-negligible source of income. She buys her merchandise from a market located in Benin.

In order to satisfy the needs of her customers, and to increase her turnover and income, she is requesting a second loan from ALIDé, along with the other members of the FIFFAWA 1 group. Their first loan was duly repaid.

Le groupement FIFFAWA 1 est composé de dix neuf personnes qui résident dans le même quartier. C'est la deuxième fois que ce groupement sollicite l'aide financier de ALIDé, afin d'élever le niveau de leur activité. La représentante de ce groupement, du nom de Celestine Dina est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo. Celestine Dina est âgée de 43 ans et est mariée à un certain Parfait. Le couple a trois enfants dont certains sont scolarisés et tous à leur charge. Celestine Dina vit ensemble avec ses enfants et son mari. Les diverses charges de la maison sont assurées par le couple. Celestine Dina n'a pas fréquenté l’école. Afin de subvenir aux diverses charges du ménage, Celestine Dina vend depuis six ans, des tissus, des produits cosmétiques, des mèches et des bijoux de façon secondaire à son domicile. Cette activité lui procure des revenus non négligeables. Celestine Dina s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaire et son revenu, Celestine Dina sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupement FIFFAWA 1, un deuxième crédit auprès de ALIDé. Le premier crédit a été bien remboursé.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
