Dembagnouma Group

The seven members of the Dembagnouma group are essentially married women who on average are 36 years old with five children. They live mostly in monogamous families in Kamalen Sirakoro, a populous neighborhood in the city of Sikasso, 3rd administrative region of Mali.

They are on their third loan with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution to meet the needs of their customers.

Ms. Aminata been trading condiments in the Dembagnouma group of women. She is the first person sitting from right to left in the photo.

She intends to use the loan to buy 20 kg of dried okra, and three 50-kg bags of onions. She resells them for cash at retail prices, on the spot assisted by family members, to a client base consisting for the most part of women.

She expects average monthly profits of 12,500 CFA francs, a portion of which is used to pay off the loan and its interest and the remainder put into savings.

Les sept membres du groupe DEMBAGNOUMA sont essentiellement de femmes mariées avec une moyenne d’âge de 36 ans, et en moyenne 5 enfants. Elles vivent la plupart dans des familles monogamiques à KAMALEN SIRAKORO un des quartiers populaires de la ville de Sikasso 3ème région administrative du Mali.
Elles sont à leur troisième prêt avec l’institution de micro finance Soro Yiriwaso afin de satisfaire le besoin de leur clientèle.
Mme AMINATA fait le commerce de condiments dans ce groupe de femmes de DEMBAGNOUMA. Elle se tient assise en première position de la droite vers la gauche sur la photo.
Elle compte acheter avec son prêt 20 kg de gombo séché, 3 sacs de 50 kg d’oignon qu’elle revend en détail sur place en famille à une clientèle composée pour la majeur partie de femmes au comptant.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 12 500 francs CFA dont une partie est utilisée pour payer le prêt et son interêt et l’autre pour son épargne.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
