Adriano De Jesús
Adriano is 37 years old, he is single and has no children. He has spent all of his life in the country, where he has been engaging in farming since he was very young, and thanks to this activity he has earned an income to daily support his family. “Farming has been deeply hit and affected by guerilla, vaccines and by the weather, and this makes of agriculture a very uncertain activity”: with these words Adriano shows his concern for the difficult situation people are subject to in the fields. For this reason he has decided to ask for his first loan, and he will use it to set up a fast-food activity. He has already rented a locale and he needs to buy chairs and tables, ingredients to prepare food (fruit, vegetables, meat, fizzy drinks) and working tools (blenders, kitchen tools) to start tending to his customers and to offer them good quality products. He will get support for this project form a relative who is already experienced in preparing and selling fast foods, and who will guide him and teach him everything related to this activity. This is how Adriano hopes to make one of his biggest dreams come true: owing and managing a big shop that will help him being well-known in his trade area, in order to improve his standard of living by earning an extra income that will complement the one from his farming activity.

More information about this loan

By supporting this loan, you're helping a borrower launch a new business!

This loan is designed for an entrepreneur who needs working capital to start a brand new business. Along with the loan, Kiva's field partner Interactuar provides counseling, training courses, and other financial resources to help new, riskier entrepreneurs set up young businesses.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
