A resident of a rural village of the Kandal Stoeng district of Cambodia, Chanthou is 29 years old and married. The main source of her family’s income is from work in a local garment factory. She and her husband have been garment workers for six years. With her current job, she can earn about 28,000 Cambodian riel (KHR) per day to spend on daily expenses.
This is Chanthou's second loan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She has successfully paid back the first loan with VisionFund. She is now asking for another loan of 4,000,000 KHR to run a new business as a clothing seller. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from her new business and improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
