Seanghai is 28 years old and married. She is a mother of four children, all of whom are dependent on her and still in school. To make a living, she and her husband have been farming rice for several years. They supplement their family’s income by catching fish. Together, they can earn about 16,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.
Seanghai is in her first loan cycle with Kiva partner VisionFund. She is now asking for a loan of 2,000,000 KHR to buy fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to get a high yield from her rice paddy so as to expand her field business.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
