Naiyan, a rural villager from Kampong Cham Province's Tbaung Khmum District, is 49 years old. She has seven dependent children. Naiyan has earned a living through farming rice on 3-hectares of farmland. Having engaged in this business for 30 years, Naiyan is able to save up to 19 US dollars per day from her current business after deducting the expenses.

This is the second-cycle loan for Naiyan with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. The past loan, which she successfully paid back, has helped her to sustain her living condition as well as her business in a gradual manner. This cycle, she is applying for an education loan to cover the entire tuition fee for her daughter, a 21-year-old freshman in a local university specializing in Accounting. She highly hopes that this loan will enable her to send her daughter to university and also help her daughter to obtain a higher education and end up with a good job after graduation to support the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
