Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Alexander Adolfo's story

Alexander, 29, lives in the famous city of Barranquilla, Atlántico Department, the land of great artists like Shakira and Sofía Vergara. He lives with his spouse and one-year-old son.

His business activity is electronics repairs and the sale of electronics spare parts; he also sells home appliances. He started the business six years ago in a locale located on one of the streets in the neighborhood he lives in that’s quite busy and has much pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

He learned his occupation studying electronics and telecommunications at SENA, the National Apprenticeship Service, which is a technical institution of the central government. He’s quite well known in his sector because of his good service. He works from Monday to Saturday from 8am until 6pm and his sales are cash.

This is his first Kiva loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo and he’ll use it to buy spare parts like Flyback, horizontals, Centaflex and regulators for home appliances. His short-term goal is to continue growing in business with respect to stock and service and in the medium to long run, to own a house.
