The ten members of the group "SENEYIRIWATON 2" are married women, who average 45 years of age and six children each, all living in polygamous families in SAFECORE, a village in SANANKOROBA (2nd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their third loan with the institution.

The crop grown is peanuts, as is the case with SALI, who is the first person sitting from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase some farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing to maintain 1.5 hectares.

After the harvest, the produce is sold at the village, in BOUGOULA, to a customer base composed of retailers and consumers. She plans on making a profit of 190,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
