Khom is in her late 40s and is a villager from Battambang province where she runs her business. She has six children, but only one is a dependent and still in school. She grows rice and sells grocery items as her main income sources. She has had this business for 15 years. Khom has never had a previous loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Now, she is taking out a loan of 4,000,000 KHR in order to buy a plot of land to build a decent house for her family. She hopes her child can have a proper house to live in.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
