Before starting this business, Paguy was a student. He plans to use his loan to buy shoes, sandals and sneakers, and hopes that the loan will help him to expand his business. Other members of the Patience group need loans for their businesses, which include the sale of cosmetic products and sodas. Paguy says that his main challenge is figuring out how to be a more successful retailer. He also says that his main goal is to have a larger business, which will allow him to travel to other countries.

Additional Information

More information about this loan

This loan is designed for a borrower or group of borrowers in Haiti. Esperanza is one of the few MFIs currently working in the northeast region of the country. Through lending, the organization aims to stimulate economic growth and opportunity in a country that has suffered debilitating crises, including political instability, natural disasters and poverty. Esperanza lends primarily to groups of women who cross-guarantee each other's loans. They also receive financial literacy courses and health services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
