Khim is a parent in her early 50s and a married mother of six children. She is a farmer who does rice cropping as the single business to support her daily basic needs. She has been involved in her current business for ages and it has returned her about 4.50 USD per day. This is the first loan for Khim with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner).

She is seeking this first loan to pay for her son’s tuition, as her son wants to pursue his bachelor's degree, specializing in accounting. She hopes that this loan will support her son’s education cost on time so that her son can pay attention to his studies and get a good job after graduation.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
