Maryam's Group
In this Group: Maryam, Mukhtara
Maryam is a 43-year-old married woman, living with her family in the area of Lahore, Pakistan.

Her husband owns a fish farm on partnership. In Pakistan, the rainy season has started, and due to monsoons the boundary wall of the fish farm cracked. His farm filled with rainwater and began to flow out from the fish farm. Many fish were also carried away with the water. Now he wants more fish for his fish farm, but he does not have enough money to buy fish.

For this purpose, Maryam contacted Kiva's field partner BRAC Pakistan so that her husband would be able to buy more fish for his fish farm. Maryam hopes that this loan will prove beneficial for her family and effect positive changes upon their lives. Her dream is to provide better facilities and higher qualifications to her children. She is very thankful to Kiva's field partner BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
