Emis lives in the Nkubu area of Eastern Kenya, situated along the slopes of Mt. Kenya. She is married and has one child.
Emis has practiced farming for three years. Her source of income is maize, coffee, and bananas. She also has a green grocery business, as an extra source of income.
Emis has requested a loan of KES 35,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry. This will boost her production level and, hence, boost her income. It will improve her family's standard of living.
The challenge Emis faces is inadequate funds. In five years, she will have opened a retail shop. Emis says that she appreciates Juhudi Kilimo because her monthly installments for Juhudi Kilimo are favorable.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
