In the city of El Alto, the “Rosales” Association works in the Senkata Center. It is made up of 12 people that perform their duties with much determination. The group carries out different activities like the sale of CDs, cosmetics and clothing and they are also seamstresses. Within the association they know each other really well – they are partners and solidly united. Nowadays, the majority of the women sell their products in the streets with the help of their families. Rosa, for example, works alongside her father. They live in an area very far away and return each night to their home. It’s a little dangerous and for that reason her father accompanies her and always takes care of her.

The “Rosales” Association wants additional credit to be able to purchase or rent permanent stands in the main markets and/or fairs in the city where they will have guaranteed sales and make more money.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
