She is 57 years of age, and never attended school. She no longer lives with her husband, but is a mother to two children who are no longer under her care. Her children are not at school.

Marguérite lives alone, and is solely responsible for providing for herself. To do this, she works selling various products via the distribution system, such as eggs, rice and sugar, and has done so for about 30 years. She gets her supplies from a market in Bénin.

In order to increase her turnover and meet customer demand, Marguérite has joined the other members of her group to request their first loan from ALIDé.

C'est un groupe composé de trois personnes, qui résident dans le même quartier. La représentante de ce groupe, nommée Marguérite (celle qui a la main levée sur la photo) est âgée de 57 ans. Marguérite n’a pas fréquenté l’école. Marguérite ne vit plus avec son mari, mais est mère de deux enfants qui ne sont plus à sa charge. Aucun des enfants n’est scolarisé. Marguérite vit seule et assure seule ses différentes charges. Pour ce faire, Marguérite vend des produits divers, tels que des œufs, du riz, du sucre, du haricot depuis une trentaine d’année par la méthode de distribution. Marguérite s'approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. En vue d’accroitre son chiffre d’affaire et de satisfaire la demande de sa clientèle, Marguérite s’associe avec les autres membres de son groupe pour solliciter un premier crédit auprès de ALIDé.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
